The History and Origin of Soliten

Madame, Monsieur, bonjour.

My name is Philippe Van der Gucht Lefevre. I am a Chemist and the director of a Pharmaceutical Laboratory in France and I wish to talk to you about Soliten.

Soliten has a particularly extraordinary origin in Sixteenth Century Dutch Alchemy. Like our grandparents were the first Pharmacists, the Alchemists were the first Chemists whose prime objective was to find the formula: "Pierre Philosophale". So what was this "Pierre Philosophale"? It was to find a product for the well being of man, and of course that well being could be gold and riches, but it could also be the well being of body and soul. It was like a new philosophy. The fact is the alchemists were very interested in Sulphur. Often the Alchemists were reproached as materialistic and only interested in the transmutation of metals to gold. These were the same people who were afraid they would succeed and end up with more wealth than themselves.

It is a family heritage: my Grandfather brought the secrets of this formula from Holland. Today we make our product in exactly the same way as the Alchemists of the Sixteenth Century some 400 years ago. The Alchemists studied Sulphur not really knowing what would happen. It was more of an observation. They had no references and only had fire to work with. They couldn't even record a temperature; there were no thermometers. From the documentation we have and as far as we know it took the Alchemists 50 Years research at the School for Alchemy in Haarlem in Holland to arrive at the formula known as Haarlem Oil, and Soliten as we also call it today. In fact, during their discoveries, as they tried, a little bit here, a little bit there, on family, friends, neighbours, it was noticed the product improved bronchial problems and arthritic problems and gave people an improved general health. They noticed peoples' respiration improved and certain illnesses cured, and people enjoyed better health.

What is Soliten? Soliten is sulphonagroterpenic the essence of which is sulphur. Sulphur cannot be manipulated or formulated because Sulphur, on its own, is insoluble. Only in oil at 100 degrees is Sulphur minimally soluble. They tried and tried to dissolve this element however it proved to be not soluble. They tried combinations with essential oils and plant oils, oils we call today unsaturated oils, all natural ingredients from nature itself. They used only natural products. They tried many combinations of natural products to make Sulphur soluble, or as we say today, bio-available.

What is Sulphur? Sulphur is yellow powder, a solid element and unfortunately insoluble. The organism of the body on the other hand needs and lives with Sulphur. Firstly at the level of the protein, the amino acids. These proteins are formed by the amino acids which are comprised of five elements: hydrogen, oxygen, carbon, nitrogen and sulphur! Without Sulphur there is no life. It is common knowledge that there are trace elements in the body; the trace elements are needed in the body but only in very small quantities, for example selenium. Then alongside them you have the macro elements, which are also, indispensable for the body but in greater quantities, more than 100 mg. per day, and Sulphur is one of the macro elements.

The body is made up of cells. Inside the cells can be found these tiny filaments that are called mitochondria and this mitochondria is the respiratory system of the cells, but unlike the relationship of oxygen and the lungs, the respiration of the cells is called oxyoreduction. What makes this process of oxyoreduction happen, to cause the transfer from + to - and from - to + is Sulphur. It is estimated, for the process of cellular respiration and renewal, the body needs 850mg. of Sulphur per day. Where does the body find this Sulphur? Let's draw a picture here, we have the soil, in the soil we find Sulphur in the form of metals or salts known as sulphides and sulphates, so how does the sulphates get from the soil to our bodies? We start with plants. Only the plants with roots can take the Sulphur sulphates from the soil and convert them to sulphur proteins of amino acids. The body, human or animal is unable to make this transformation from sulphates to amino acids and protein. It is only the plants; so plants give us vegetable protein. Therefore as animals eat the plants we arrive at this particular animal protein.

The living human organism has its own sulphurised amino acid proteins. Since in the chain of 20 amino acids, some are sulphurised, the body absorbs important quantities of Sulphur through the protein in the form of sulphurised amino acids, and the organism utilises Sulphur as amino acid, for example Glutathion. The other source of Sulphur for the human organism is also found in plant material but is alongside and apart from the amino acids, it is non-oxidised organic sulphur. Of course some plants are richer in Sulphur, for example Garlic is an elementary source of bioavailable non-oxidised organic Sulphur for the organism. It is also plentiful in the yolks of eggs.

In parallel with the soil we have the thermal waters which are also very rich in sulphides and sulphates. When man arrived on earth he didn't foresee that there would be a need for supplements. He had to find everything he needed in nature. So when this Sulphur arrives in the organism on the one side by way of amino acids and on the other by non oxidised organic Sulphur it is called assimilation of Sulphur, while the reverse process in called disassimilation of Sulphur. These days people are getting much older and as we age we need more Sulphur.
