References of Clinical Studies and Source Information
1. Use of Colloidal Sulphur in the Treatment of Arthritis. Thomas Wheeldon Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery 1934 studied 892 cases of arthritis over a four year period and concluded that some if not all forms of arthritis are the result of a sulphur deficiency. He stated that each of us has a reserve of sulphur to combat the contributing etiological factors of arthritis and given sufficient sulphur reserves arthritis would not occur.
2. Results of Treatment of Chronic Arthritis & Rheumatoid Conditions with Colloidal Sulphur . B.D. Senturia Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery 1934 concluded from his study that colloidal sulphur injections resulted in improvement in 75% of them and that it is a thoroughly safe remedy.
3. Cystine content of the Finger Nails in Arthritis. Sullivan & Hess , Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery 1934, found in their study of the cystine content of the fingernails in patients with arthritis that as the arthritis improved after injections of colloidal sulphur the cystine content of the finger nails increased.(Cystine is one of the sulphurised amino acids produced by the body)
4. The Cartilage Protective Agents. Sulphur is a critical structural component in the GAG molecules (glycosaminoglycans). The primary GAG molecule in cartilage is glucosamine sulfate. This compound has been shown in numerous clinical trials to have cartilage protective qualities. ( Soliten sulphur supplement will allow the body to produce its own glucosamine sulfate) When compared with various NSAIDS, glucosamine by the second week of treatment was more effective in terms of pain relief than NSAIDS, and resulted in partial restoration of articular function, and this recovery did not fade after treatment but lasted for another month. These features are a definite improvement over antirheumatic drugs, the major drawbacks of which are action of short duration and side effects. Vajaradul, Y. Double blind clinical evaluation of intra-articular glucosamine in outpatients with gonarthritis. Clin. Ther. 1981 7. Rovati et al in a large randomized double blind study concluded glucosamine sulfate was safe and effective and reported its steadily increasing effect that persisted after its withdrawal. Osteoarthritis Cartilage 1994 2:56 A large randomised, placebo-controlled, double blind study of glucosamine sulfate vs. piroxicam and vs. their association, on the kinetics of the symptomatic effect in knee osteoarthritis.
5. Professor Jacquot in 1984 studied the bioavailability of SLT Soliten a sulphur supplement composed of sulphurised oils (linoterpenic) and concluded that sulphur is absorbed at the high level of 40% in the digestive tract. Etude Pharmacologique 1984 "Biodisponibilite du Soufre"
6. Woldenberg Med Record CXXXIX 1934 in his study of 100 cases reports that normal sulphur metabolism takes place in three phases, the important phase is that which absorbs sulphur in the intestinal tract to maintain reserves sufficient to satisfy the increasing demand for sulphur by the tendons and cartilage of the joints.
7. It has been scientifically shown that those suffering from AIDS demonstrate a consistent and drastic shortage of amino acids, methionine, cystine, and cysteine -(all of which are amino acids produced by taking sulphur) F. Batmanghelidj AIDS Issue of Science in Medicine Simplified Aug 1989, & Your Body's Many Cries for Water, Breitkreutz R. et al, Massive Loss of sulphur in HIV infection Aids Res. Hum Retroviruses 2000 Feb.
8. "Ageing damaged malnourished cartilage needs two things: dietary antioxidants like vitamin C and OPC to neutralise free radicals and an ample supply of GAGs (glycosaminoglycans) to construct and repair chondroitin sulfate and proteoglycans. Otherwise cartilage will begin to fragment" Craig Weatherby , The Arthritis Bible.
